STANDISH, ME - FY Chris Davis (New York, NY)
scored a game and career high 25 points and SO Alonso
Davis (Richmond, VA) added 18 points to help the Monks get
past GNAC counterpart Suffolk College, 84-71 on Monday night. SJC
improves to 8-4 in conference play and is now 10-9 overall. Suffolk
now holds a 1-11 GNAC record and is 2-17 overall.
Chris Davis scored 6 points in the first four
minutes to help the Monks stake an early 12-2 lead over the Rams.
Suffolk battled back to within 3 points in the following three
minutes and kept the game close for remainder of the first half as
SJC held a five point lead going into the break.
Rams guard Alan Jaziri (Norwich, CT) scored 5 points in the opening
minute of the second stanza to knot up the score at 39-39. In the
following four minutes, St. Joe's pilfered three steals helped the
Monks tally a 13-0 run and go up by a 52-39 score.
Suffolk lessened the Monks lead to 8 points after Jaziri hit a pair
of free throws with nine minutes remaining but could not manage to
get any closer for the duration of the game as St. Joe's would
extend the lead to as much as 21 points late in the half before
settling on a final 84-71 score.
Alonso Davis added 11 boards to go along with his
18 points to notch a double-double effort and sank 6 of 7 attempts
from the charity stripe in the conference contest. Chris
Davis made 10 of 13 field goal attempts and registered 6
boards, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots in the Royal Blue victory. JR
Elbie Murphy (Loudonville, NY) scored 19 points
dished out 8 assists and grabbed 3 steals. SO Ray
Eatmon (Huntington, NY) added 8 points and 8 rebounds for
St. Joe's
Rams guard Mike Fleming (Exeter, NH) made 7 three-pointers and
scored 23 points to lead all Suffolk scorers and Brian Small
(Stoughton, MA) netted 14 points. Alan Jaziri added 11 points in
the losing bid.
St. Joe's will travel to Nashua, NH to take on GNAC foe Rivier
College on Wednesday, 2/6 at 7:00 PM.
