Monks' Murphy Garners Honor Roll Mention

STANDISH, ME - The Great Northeast Athletic Conference has announced its weekly honor roll and Saint Joseph's forward Elbie Murphy '09 (Loudonville, NY) has received recognition.

In the reporting period ending February 15th, Murphy averaged 18.0 points, 4.0 boards and 3.5 assists in a 1-1 week for the Monks and netted his 1,400th career point in a loss to Emerson on February 14th. He netted a game-high 24 points and made five three-pointers in a victory over Albertus Magnus on February 10th.

Murphy's name can be found throughout the Monks Basketball record book. Through 104 career games, he ranks in the top 15 in 14 statistical categories, including steals (1st, 311), steals per game (2nd, 3.0), blocks (3rd, 121), free throws made (3rd, 414) and points (9th, 1457). The senior is six rebounds shy of being only the third player in SJC history to notch 1,400 points, 500 caroms and 300 assists in their career.

Murphy has played his best down the stretch and has averaged 18.5 points in the last four games, all GNAC contests, as St. Joe's gears up for a playoff run. With a win against Emmanuel on Tuesday night, Saint Joseph's is set to host a GNAC tourney quarterfinal game as either the #3 or #4 seed, with the outcome against Lasell College on Saturday to decide the final seeding for the Monks. The game against the Lasers, who clinched first place in the GNAC with a win over Emerson on Tuesday and won the conference championship in 2008, is the final contest of the regular season for both teams. Tip-off is slated for 3:00 PM following the women's contest, which begins at 1:00 PM.
