Richardson-Newton Tabbed Third Team All-GNAC

STANDISH, Maine – The 2016 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball postseason awards have been released and Saint Joseph's College sophomore forward Quinn Richardson-Newton (Saco, Maine) has collected Third Team All-Conference honors.

Saint Joseph's, led by 13th-year Head Coach Rob Sanicola '99, was also selected – by vote of conference head coaches – as the 2016 season's Institutional Sportsmanship Award winner. The Monks led the conference in fewest fouls per game with 14.3 infractions per contest.

Richardson-Newton earns his first All-Conference honor after leading the Monks in scoring (14.2 PPG), points (326), rebounding (6.4 RPG), field goals made (122), field goal percentage (44.7%), free throws made (82), and free throw success (78.1%).

The second-year starter led the team in scoring in 14 different contests and was the Monks' top rebounder on 11 occasions this winter. With 580 points over two collegiate seasons, only two SJC men's basketball players – Elbie Murphy '09 (760) and Zach O'Brien '12 (593) – in the last 15 seasons have netted more during their first two years.

Saint Joseph's, featuring a roster with 11 freshmen and sophomores, went 8-18 overall and 5-13 in GNAC play this winter. The Monks earned the #8 seed in the GNAC Tournament and fell to eventual conference champions Johnson & Wales University, 73-36, in the first round of the playoffs.
