Casale Earns GNAC & MMBCWA Weekly Honors

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and Maine Men's Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) weekly accolades have been released and Saint Joseph's College junior guard Jack Casale (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) has been chosen as the Player of the Week  by both organizations.

Casale earns the weekly honors after averaging 25.0 points and 10.0 rebounds while shooting 60% (18-30) from the floor and 50% (5-10) from three-point territory in a 1-1 week. The junior guard netted 31 points – the 10th 30-point effort of his career – while shooting 78.6% (11-14 FG, 3-6 3PT, 6-7 FT) from the field to go with nine boards and two blocks in an 87-74 victory over Plymouth State on Wednesday. He followed up with a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double in a setback at Bates on Saturday.

In seven games so far this season Casale is averaging 24.1 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 54.4% (62-114) from the floor, 36.4% (16-44) from downtown, and 67.4% (29-43) from the FT line. He currently leads the GNAC in scoring average and ranks second in rebounding average and defensive rebounds (68). As of December 9th, he ranks 15th in the country in points per game average.

With this week's accolades, Casale has now collected 10 GNAC weekly honors with nine MMBCWA top player/rookie awards in his career. The junior standout was also doubly honored on November 25th.

In 59 career games, Casale has scored 1,099 points with 455 rebounds, 162 assists, 41 steals and 27 blocked shots while shooting 48.7% (383-786) from the field, 40.0% (166-415) from three-point distance, and 72.9% (167-229) from the charity stripe. He became the 42nd member of the Monks' 1,000-Point Club – and in 56 games the third-fastest to hit the mark in program history - with his first field goal in a loss at UMaine-Farmington on November 26th.

Next up for Saint Joseph's (2-5) is a pair of games in the Mauro Panaggio Tournament in Daytona Beach, as the Monks face Brockport on Sunday at 2:00 PM and an opponent to be determined on Monday.
