Saint Joseph’s Motors Past Maine Maritime, 81-72

CASTINE, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (5-7) worked past Maine Maritime Academy (2-8), 81-72, in a non-conference men's basketball game on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In a closely-contested matchup that featured a whopping 17 lead changes and 11 ties, the Monks were able to secure the lead – and the victory, as it played out – with a 15-4 run that started midway through the second half.

Trailing 59-55 with 9:18 remaining, junior guard Jack Casale (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) went on a tear with nine points in a matter of three minutes and sophomore forward David Keohan (West Newfield, Maine) notched a three-point play at the 3:19 mark, capping the run his team ahead by a game-high 11 points (74-63).

STATS OF THE GAME:

Having shot a season-low 24.1% (7-29) from downtown, the Monks managed to pull off their second-consecutive win by shooting 83.3% (20-24) from the FT line and posting advantages in points off turnovers (16-9) and points in the paint (34-24) in the road victory.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Casale registered a monster double-double with 28 points and 16 rebounds and added three assists; he also surpassed the 1,200 career-point mark in the triumph
  • Keohan was 7-for-9 from the floor with 18 points
  • Sophomore guard Griffin Foley (Portland, Maine) netted 16 points
  • Junior guard Tatsuaki Sakai (Ishikawa, Japan) added seven points, four assists, and four rebounds

LEADERS – MAINE MARITIME:

  • Riley Jorgenson paced the Mariners with 17 points and added five rebounds and four assists
  • Nicholas DePatsy scored 16 points with five caroms
  • DeMerrill Levy chipped in with 13 points, eight assists, and five boards
  • Kimani Anderson delivered 11 points, eight rebounds, and three steals

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 17-0 in the history of the series with Maine Maritime Academy.
