Husson Defeats Saint Joseph's, 84-69

BANGOR, Maine - Justin Thompson, Justice Kendall, and DJ Bussey combined for 53 points as the Husson University men's basketball team won the 4th Annual Alumni Cup with an 84-69 victory over the Monks of Saint Joseph's College (Maine) at Newman Gymnasium on Saturday. With the victory, the Eagles are back over the .500 mark at 3-2 while the Monks drop to 1-5.

The Eagles used three separate 7-0 runs in the first half as they led the Monks, 45-36 at halftime. Graduate student Thompson led the Eagles in the first half with 11 points and seven rebounds while senior Bussey had ten and senior Kendall had nine.

In the second half, the Eagles led by as much as 21 thanks in part to a 12-0 run to come away with the victory. Sophomore Isaac Varney came off the bench and added seven points in seven minutes to assist the Eagles along the way.

HUSSON STATS

  • Thompson inched closer to the 1,000 point mark with a game-high 21 points as he is 27 away from the milestone. He also grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds including his 500th rebound.
  • Kendall provided 16 points and seven assists while Bussey also scored 16 points.
  • Varney also scored double digit points with 11 off the bench.
  • The Eagles shot 42.7% (32-for-75) from the field while holding the Monks to 34.2% (25-for-73).

SAINT JOSEPH'S COLLEGE OF MAINE STATS

  • Ashtyn Abbott led the Monks with 13 points while Nicholas Curtis added 12.
  • Off the bench, Camryn Yorke scored seven points and had 11 rebounds.
  • The Monks converted on 90.9% (10-for-11) from the charity stripe while the Eagles shot 68.2% (15-for-22).
