STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (13-11, 9-7 GNAC) defeated Regis College (13-11, 9-8 GNAC), 68-58, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball game at the Harold Alfond Center on Tuesday night.
MILESTONE MET:
With a three-pointer at the 18:38 mark of the second half, graduate student guard Nicholas Curtis (Windham, Maine) broke the Monks' career three-pointers made record, which was previously held by Stephen Chase '93, who connected for 311 trifectas in 119 games.
Curtis entered tonight's contest with 309 treys to his credit and has now converted 312 shots from downtown in 110 career games. Chase, a 2015 SJC Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, shot 37.2% (311-835) from deep during his career while Curtis sports a 40.9% (312-763) career three-point shooting percentage.
Sophomore guard Teagan Hynes (York, Maine) was credited with the assist on the record-breaking three, which was hit from the baseline on the left side of the court.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The GNAC foes swapped the lead twice and played through three tie scores early in the first half, but the Monks closed out the opening frame with a 10-1 run to secure a 35-31 advantage heading into intermission.
The hosts posted their first double-digit lead of the night when sophomore guard Julian Llopiz (Boston, Mass.) made a three-pointer to make it a 47-37 game with 11:07 left. After netting eight unanswered points – including five from Hynes – in a matter of two minutes, the Monks held a game-high 15-point (57-42) cushion with 7:07 on the clock.
Saint Joseph's proceeded to lead by at least 10 points for all but one Regis possession down the stretch and held off the Pride due in part to a 4-for-5 effort from the free throw line in the closing 46 seconds.
STATS OF THE GAME:
St. Joe's shot 32.3% (10-31) from three-point distance while Regis made just 3-of-14 shots for a 21.4% success rate from deep…The Monks scored 19 points off 17 Pride turnovers and held a 29-15 lead in bench points.

- Llopiz scored 14 points with two rebounds and a steal
- Graduate guard Griffin Foley (Portland, Maine) tallied 12 points, five boards, three assists, and three blocked shots
- Freshman forward Wani Donato (Portland, Maine) came off the bench to net 12 points with six rebounds
- Curtis scored nine points with five boards and four assists
- Hynes chipped in with eight points, six assists, and a pair of steals
LEADERS – REGIS:
- Senior forward Devante Thompson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) scored 16 points with a pair of assists
- Freshman forward Jamir Harvey (Robbins, Ill.) posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds
- Senior guard Cameron Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) came off the bench to score 10 points with five caroms and three assists
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the victory Saint Joseph's is now 4-1 all-time versus Regis College, a team that defeated the Monks by a 79-73 score last winter.
