Wani Named GNAC Rookie of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been announced and Saint Joseph's College freshman guard Remijo Wani (Portland, Maine) has earned GNAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week honors.

Wani collects the first weekly award of his collegiate career after averaging 13.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists while shooting 57.7% (15-26) from the field, 40.0% (4-10) from three-point range, and 83.3% (5-6) from the FT line in three games for the Monks last week. The freshman guard scored 26 points - the most by an SJC first-year in 23 years - while shooting 76.9% (10-13) from the floor versus Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday. Wani garnered All-Tournament Team honors after averaging 15.5 points in two Snyder Classic Tournament contests at NWU.

Through seven games so far this season Wani is averaging 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while shooting 49.1% (26-53), 41.7% (10-24), and 80.0% (8-10) from the floor, three-point distance, and the charity stripe, respectively.

He currently leads the team in 3FG% and ranks second in scoring average and third in FG%.

Saint Joseph's kicks off Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday with a home game versus University of Saint Joseph. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
