Men Place Third, Women Fifth in GNAC Indoor Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College finished third overall in the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship at Boston University on Sunday. The Monks tallied 56 points trailing runner-up Colby-Sawyer with 92 points. Associate GNAC Member, Suffolk University, scored 234 points to win the second annual GNAC indoor Championship.

 

Senior James Benson (Gorham, Maine) garnered All-Conference honors after winning the Triple Jump with 12.59m distance. Junior Ashtyn Abbott (Farmingdale, Maine) also brought home the gold in the High jump with a 1.85m mark. Senior Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) finished as runner-up in the Mile with a 4:40.68 finish. 

 

Behind the Monks Lasell University placed fourth (42), Regis gathered 41 points for fifth and Emmanuel College rounded out the six-team field with 21 points.

THE RUNDOWN:

 

  • Senior James Benson (Gorham, Maine) tallied the team-high of 20 points with a first-place finish in the Triple Jump (12.59m), third in the 60 Meter dash (7.34) and a fourth-place finish in the Long Jump with a 6.32m mark.
  • Senior Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) brought home 12 points in his efforts with a second-place finish in the Mile (4:40.68), two sixth place finishes in the 800-Meter Run (2:04.28) and 3000 Meter Run (9:37.67). Hendricks also gathered two points in the Distance Medley Relay 
  • Junior Ashtyn Abbott (Farmingdale, Maine) had a slam dunk of a finish placing first overall in the High Jump (1.85m) bringing in ten points for the Monks
  • Senior Tyler Nadeau (Farmingdale, Maine) gathered six points racing for a fifth-place finish in the 200 Meter Dash (23.81) and seventh in the 60 Meter run (7.47). Nadeau gathered two of his six points in the Distance Medley Relay. 
  • Senior Jacob Huberdeau (Atkinson, N.H.) powered through the 5000 Meter Run placing fourth overall (16:35.74) and concluded with an eighth-place finish in the 3000 Meter Run (9:56.13) gathering four points on the day
  • Sophomore Wesley Hundley (Kennebunk, Maine) placed sixth in the Shot Put with a 10.45m effort scoring a point for the Monks while also flying in for an eleventh-place finish in the 200 Meter Dash (24.25)
  • Sophomore Ryan Farr (Gorham, Maine) placed seventh in the 400 Meter Dash (54.45)
  • Devin Abbott, Nadeau, Graham, and Hendricks placed second overall in the Distance Medley Relay (11:48.49)
  • Nick Carmosino, Shaw, Rice, and Breen finished for sixth in the 4x400 Meter Relay
  • Jesse Tidd (Portland, Maine), Ethan Shaw (Scarborough, Maine), Cameron Rice (Old Orchard Beach, Maine), Mardoche Kikobo (Kinshasa, DRC), and Shawn Breen (Ashland, N.H.) Devin Abbott (Berwick, Maine) also competed in the Indoor Track & Field Championship
