MONKS WIN GNAC MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP!!

BOSTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College ran away with the 2023 GNAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center on Sunday. The Monks tallied 168 total points, 40 more than runner-up Regis College, to claim the program's first-ever conference title.

Regis placed second with 128 points and Colby-Sawyer College finished third with 104 points while Emmanuel College (44) and Lasell University (41) rounded out the field of competing institutions.

A pair of team records and another was tied on the men's side, as first-year standout Abdirizak Abukar (Lewiston, Maine) established new team bests with top finishes in the 60-Meter (7.21) and 200-Meter (22.52) events and senior Ashtyn Abbott (Farmingdale, Maine) tied the High Jump record with a 1.96m winning leap.

THE RUNDOWN:

  • Abukar won all three of his individual events - 60-Meter (7.21), 200-Meter (22.52), and 400-Meter (51.10) – for 30 total points and ran a leg for the Monks' winning 4x400-Meter Relay (3:39.32)
  • Abbott successfully defended his High Jump title with a 1.96m effort – which ties the mark posted by Noah Hutchinson in 2018
  • Junior Wesley Hundley (Kennebunk, Maine) topped the Shot Put field with an 11.75m heave and was fourth in the Weight Throw (9.53m) for 14 individual points
  • Senior Devin Abbott (Berwick, Maine) accrued 24 individual points with second-place finishes in the 1-Mile (4:40.74), 3000-Meter (9:54.41), and 5000-Meter (17:15.66) events and ran a leg for the Monks' Distance Medley Relay (11:59.80) team, which finished second
  • Grad student Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) notched 20 total points after posting third-place finishes in the 800-Meter (2:06.74) and 5000-Meter (17:16.47) events and fourth-place efforts in the 1-Mile (4:41.24) and 3000-Meter (10:01.68); Hendricks also ran a leg for the Monks' Distance Medley Relay (11:59.80) team, which finished second
  • Sophomore Dylan Dickey (Laconia, N.H.) placed second in the High Jump (1.80m) and fifth in the Shot Put (10.03m) for 10 total points
  • Junior Ryan Farr (Gorham, Maine) was second in the 400-Meter (51.28), fourth in the 200-Meter (23.29), and fifth in the 60-Meter (7.36) and ran a leg for the Monks' winning 4x400-Meter Relay (3:39.32)
  • Sophomore Ryan Graham (Hopkinton, N.H.) tallied eight points after placing third in the 1-Mile (4:40.88) and fifth in the 800-Meter (2:08.65) events; he also ran a leg for the Monks' Distance Medley Relay (11:59.80) team, which finished second
  • Sophomore Tyler Ricker (Montpelier, Vt.) placed in three events and racked up nine points after finishing third in the Long Jump (6.12m), fifth in the 400-Meter (51.97), and sixth in the Triple Jump (11.39m); Ricker also ran a leg for the Monks' winning 4x400-Meter Relay (3:39.32)
  • Freshman Alexey Seredin (Peaks Island, Maine) added 10 points with a third-place finish in the 3000-Meter (10:00.64) and fourth-place time in the 5000-Meter (17:20.18); he also ran a leg for the Monks' Distance Medley Relay (11:59.80) team, which finished second
  • Freshman Seth Quinney (Northwood, N.H.) placed sixth in the Shot Put (9.59m)
  • Noah Batoosingh (Scarborough, Maine), Nick Carmosino (Acton, Mass.),Brayden Grant (Rochester, N.H.), Ethan Shaw (Scarborough, Maine), Ethan Tardif (Auburn, Maine), and Jesse Tidd (Portland, Maine) also competed for the Monks but did not register point-place finishes
  • Farr, Ricker, Carmosino, and Abukar won the 4x400-Meter Relay (3:39.32)
  • Abbott, Graham, Seredin, and Hendricks placed second in the Distance Medley (11:59.80)
