17 Monks Combine to Earn 23 Indoor Track & Field All-GNAC Honors

STANDISH, Maine - A total of 17 Saint Joseph's College indoor track & field athletes have combined to claim 23 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference accolades for their performances in the 2023 GNAC Championships.

Led by Head Coach Tom Dann, the men's team claimed the first GNAC Championship in program history while the women finished fifth in the title event, which was held at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center on Sunday, February 12th.

All-Conference honorees are chosen based on the GNAC Championship  results, as the top three finishers in each event – including relays – garner All-GNAC accolades.

The SJC coaching staff, consisting of Tom Dann, Michael Roscoe, Michael Burelson, and Kris Mason '21, earned Men's Coaching Staff of the Year honors while freshman Abdirizak Abukar (Lewiston, Maine) was voted as the GNAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year.

MEN:

  • Freshman Abdirizak Abukar (Lewiston, Maine) earned three All-Conference nods after winning all three of his individual events - 60-Meter (7.21), 200-Meter (22.52), and 400-Meter (51.10)
  • Senior Ashtyn Abbott (Farmingdale, Maine) collected All-GNAC honors after winning the High Jump event with a 1.96m effort
  • Junior Wesley Hundley (Kennebunk, Maine) stood atop the Shot Put podium with an 11.75m heave to earn All-Conference honors
  • Senior Devin Abbott (Berwick, Maine) claimed a trio of All-Conference awards after posting second-place finishes in the 1-Mile (4:40.74), 3000-Meter (9:54.41), and 5000-Meter (17:15.66) events
  • Grad student Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) earned a pair of All-GNAC honors after putting up third-place finishes in the 800-Meter (2:06.74) and 5000-Meter (17:16.47) events
  • Sophomore Dylan Dickey (Laconia, N.H.) placed second in the High Jump (1.80m) to earn his first indoor All-GNAC nod
  • Junior Ryan Farr (Gorham, Maine) earned All-Conference honors with a second-place finish in the 400-Meter (51.28)
  • Sophomore Ryan Graham (Hopkinton, N.H.) placed third in the 1-Mile (4:40.88) to pick up All-GNAC honors
  • Sophomore Tyler Ricker (Montpelier, Vt.) collected All-Conference mention after finishing third in the Long Jump (6.12m)
  • Freshman Alexey Seredin (Peaks Island, Maine) earned All-GNAC acclaim with a third-place finish in the 3000-Meter (10:00.64)
  • Farr, Ricker, Nick Carmosino (Acton, Mass.), and Abukar took home All-Conference honors with a win in the 4x400-Meter Relay (3:39.32)
  • Abbott, Graham, Seredin, and Hendricks notched an All-GNAC bid after placing second in the Distance Medley (11:59.80)

WOMEN: 

  • Junior Brooklyn Goff (Biddeford, Maine) earned three All-Conference accolades after registering wins in the 60-Meter Hurdles (9.69) and Long Jump (5.06m) events and a third-place effort in the 200-Meter (27.24)
  • Freshman Paige Sawyer (Ellsworth, Maine) placed second in the 60-Meter Hurdles (9.93) to claim her first All-GNAC honor
  • Senior Kimberly Moulton (Franklin, Mass.) placed third in the Weight Throw (11.92m) to take home All-Conference honors
  • Alexia Young (Rochester, N.H.), Goff, Kate Luiz (Pittston, Maine), and Taylor Garland (Saco, Maine) collected All-Conference honors after finishing second in the 4x400-Meter Relay (4:38.20)
