ECAC Tabs Grovo as DIII New England POTW

STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College junior second baseman Connie Grovo (Limington, Maine) has garnered ECAC DIII New England Softball Player of the Week honors.

Grovo, who was chosen as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week on Monday, hit .733 (11-15) with five runs, a double and eight RBI over four conference contests last week. The third-year starter went 4-4 with a run and an RBI against Rivier University on Thursday and was 4-4 with three RBI and rapped a two-run, walk-off single in a 3-2 victory over GNAC-rival Lasell College on Saturday.

Through 18 games for the Monks, Grovo is currently hitting .460 (23-50) with 12 runs, four doubles, a triple, 14 RBI and seven sacrifice hits. She also sports a .580 slugging percentage and a .500 OBP so far this spring.

She is the only Saint Joseph's softball player to claim ECAC weekly honors in the last nine years and the third St. Joe's athlete to be honored by the regional organization during the 2012-13 academic year. Sophomore cross country standout Amber Dostie (Standish, Maine) and second-year women's soccer player Danielle Daigle (Dayton, Maine) earned ECAC accolades last fall.

Saint Joseph's (14-4, 6-2 GNAC) is set to play at Johnson & Wales University on Friday in a GNAC twinbill slated to begin at 3:30 PM.
