BASEBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS ANNOUNCED

Saint Joseph's Tandem of Furbush, McIntosh
nab CO-PLAYER OF THE YEAR Title

The North Atlantic Conference announced the 2005 Baseball All-Conference teams on Monday, May 9, along with Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year selections. Saint Joseph's took home most of the major awards in 2005, as rookie hurler Charlie Furbush (S. Portland, Me.) and senior catcher Derek McIntosh (Auburn, Me.) shared NAC PLAYER OF THE YEAR honors. Freshman outfielder Keith Renaud of Becker earned the league's Rookie of the Year award.

Furbush and McIntosh both received NAC All-Conference First Team recognition as well, as St. Joe's placed four players on the 2005 team with Mark Clapp (So., Blue Hill, Me.) and Andy Exley (Portland, Me.) joining the Co-Players of the Year. Rounding out the All-Conference First Team were Travis Myers (Castleton State), Devin Caron and Keith Renaud (Becker), and Sean Brawn, Jason Harvey, and Kyle Mathieu (Husson).

Furbush led his team from the rubber this season, going 6-0 through eight appearances, with a 1.01 ERA. In addition, Furbush struck out 49 batters while only surrendering nine walks, holding opponents to a .187 batting average. McIntosh, who played in 36 of St. Joseph's 37 outings this season, led the NAC in batting average (.455) and home runs (9), while posting a .991 fielding percentage.

The NAC also awarded two more SJC players All-Conference Second Team honors, those being senior pitcher Greg Kimball (Lebanon, Me.), and rookie outfielder Luke Enman (Milan, N.H.).

In the Monks' first year of competition in the North Atlantic Conference, head coach Will Sanborn guided his club to the top of the standings and a shot at this year's tournament championship. For his efforts, Sanborn was selected by the league's coaches as the 2005 NAC COACH OF THE YEAR. Castleton State earned the 2005 Team Sportsmanship Award.

Nomination and voting for NAC All-Conference teams is conducted by the head coaches of the member institutions the week prior to the NAC Championship.
