Bergeron Picked as MCBSA Pitcher of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – The Maine College Baseball & Softball Association (MCBSA) weekly honors have been released and Saint Joseph's College grad Matthew Bergeron (Salem, N.H.) has been selected as the MCBSA Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Bergeron won both of his starts last week and posted a 1.72 ERA with 14 strikeouts - versus just two walks - over 15.2 innings. He hurled 6.2 one-run innings with six strikeouts in a 3-1 victory over Lasell on Tuesday and tossed a complete-game with eight strikeouts in a 7-2 triumph at Norwich on Sunday. For the week the 6'8" righthander posted a stellar 1.09 WHIP.

In nine appearances – all starts – so far this season, Bergeron is 2-6 with a 3.73 ERA and 45 strikeouts, against just 11 walks, in 60.1 innings.

For his career, he is 23-16 with a 3.95 ERA and 170 strikeouts over 257.1 innings. He is the Monks' all-time leader in innings and ranks second in team history in victories, third in fewest walks allowed per nine innings (1.60), 11th in strikeouts, and 12th in WHIP (1.26).

As the #8 seed in the GNAC Tournament, the Monks will play at top-seeded Mitchell College in the first round of the double-elimination tourney on Friday at 11:00 AM.
