GAME 3
STANDISH, MAINE - #2 Husson College (24-15, 10-3) defeated #4
Castleton State College 12-1 in game 3 of the NAC Tournament at
Mahaney Diamond today.
Junior Jason Harvey (Bucksport, ME) led the way for the Eagles with
a 3 for 4 performance that included a homerun, a triple and 3
RBI's. Junior Travis Tripp (Bar Harbor, ME) earned the win,
pitching 7 innings and allowing 4 hits.
Husson jumped out to an early lead, scoring 3 runs in the first
inning and added 3 more runs in both the third and fourth innings
to make it 9-0.
Castleton (18-21, 7-7) scored a run in the bottom of the fourth as
senior Chad Phillips (Huntington, VT) singled and went on to
score.
The Eagles plated 3 more runs on 4 hits in the fifth.
Husson junior Justin Spencer (Brewer, ME) went 3 for 4 and
sophomore Adam Sheehan (Bucksport, ME) added two hits for the
Eagles.
Phillips went 2 for 4 for Castleton and senior Travis Myers
(Mountain Home, ID) went 5 innings, giving up 13 hits.
With this second loss, Castleton State is eliminated; Husson
College will go on to face the winner of the 2 PM Becker-St. Joe's
game.
GAME 4
STANDISH, MAINE - Freshman hurler Charlie
Furbush (South Portland, ME) earned his 7th win of
the season, pitching a complete game and striking out 14 as #1 seed
Saint Joseph's College (31-9, 13-1 NAC) defeated #3 Becker College
6-0 in Game 4 of the NAC Tournament at Mahaney Diamond today.
The Monks scored 4 runs in the third on 5 hits to take a commanding
4-0 lead. Senior Aaron Cieslak
(Windham, ME) singled and scored in the fourth inning to make it
5-0.
In the sixth inning, freshman Luke
Enman (Milan, NH) hit his sixth home run of the
season to put St. Joe's up 6-0.
Senior Derek McIntosh (Auburn,
ME) went 3 for 4 and Cieslak was 2 for 3 to lead
the Monks.
Sophomore Cory Shepherd (Worcester, MA) went 2 for 3 for the Hawks
(23-16, 8-6 NAC) and freshman Jim Pesente (Whitman, MA) struck out
four and gave up 11 hits in the loss.
The Hawks will meet the Eagles of Husson College at 6 PM to
determine who will face Saint Joseph's in tomorrow's 10 AM
Championship game.
