STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College junior
Pat Moran (Winterport, ME/Hampden
Academy) has been named the GNAC Pitcher of the Week for the second
straight week and third time overall this spring.
The junior almost singlehandedly propelled the Monks to a sweep
over GNAC rival Suffolk University on April 19th. The University of
Maine transfer hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh
in the opening game against the Rams and followed up the dramatic
finish with a complete game gem, allowing five hits and one earned
run with no walks and nine strikeouts, in the 5-2 nightcap
triumph.
For the week, the slugger hit .565 (13-23) and boasted a 1.217
slugging percentage with four home runs, 13 runs scored and 11 RBI
in a 7-1 week for the Monks.
Moran, who serves as either the Monks' left fielder or designated
hitter when not on the mound, is enjoying one of the most
impressive seasons ever posted by a two-way player at St. Joe's.
Through 35 games, he is 6-0 with a 2.25 ERA and has notched 62
strikeouts, against just three walks and 37 hits allowed, in 52
innings. At the plate, Moran is hitting .405 with eight home runs,
26 runs and 32 RBI.
Sunday's sweep secured the top seed for Saint Joseph's (25-10, 13-1
GNAC) in the upcoming conference tournament. The Monks will host
the winner of Wednesday's Johnson & Wales/Emerson College
play-in game in a conference quarterfinal contest, which is
scheduled to begin on Thursday at 5:00 PM at Larry Mahaney Diamond.
