STANDISH, ME - The 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Baseball Tournament pairing have been announced. Saint Joseph's College (26-11, 12-2 GNAC) has earned the #1 seed and Larry Mahaney Diamond will serve as the host site for the weekend portion of the tourney.
St. Joe's, the reigning GNAC Champions, will host #4 Lasell College (21-13, 8-6 GNAC) on Thursday in a quarterfinal contest at 4:00 PM. The Lasers bested #5 Albertus Magnus (11-19, 8-6 GNAC), 8-5, in a play-in game on Tuesday evening to advance to the double-elimination round.
#2 Johnson & Wales (20-18-1, 11-3 GNAC) will host #3 Suffolk University (18-17, 9-5 GNAC) on Thursday at 6:30 PM. Suffolk eased past #6 Emerson College (12-24, 4-10 GNAC), 17-0, in a play-in contest on Tuesday to advance.
The GNAC Tournament is a six team tournament bracket with the top two seeds earning byes in the single-elimination opening round, which was played on Tuesday. The double-elimination round begins on Thursday with a pair of quarterfinal contests being played at the higher seeds. The tourney moves to a single site - Mahaney Diamond - on Saturday and the championship game will be played on Sunday.
