STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been released and Saint Joseph's College senior shortstop Joey Murphy (Derry, N.H.) has been selected as the GNAC Player of the Week.
In a doubleheader sweep over Clark University on Sunday, Murphy hit .625 (5-8) with three runs, two doubles, a home run, three RBI, and three stolen bases. He led off the lid-lifter with a solo homer and was 2-for-4 with a steal and went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, two RBI, and a pair of stolen bases in the nightcap. For the day, he posted a 1.250 slugging percentage with a .667 OBP and fielded all eight chances without an error.
In 11 games this season, Murphy is hitting .486 (18-37) with 14 runs, five doubles, a triple, a home run, 12 stolen bases (in as many attempts), and 10 RBI. He currently leads the team in batting average and doubles and is tied for the lead in stolen bases.
In 118 career games, Murphy owns a .348 (140-402) batting average with 102 runs, 21 doubles, three triples, three home runs, and 49 stolen bases. The Player of the Week honor is a career-first for the four-year starter.
Saint Joseph's (11-0) will play at UMass.-Boston tomorrow at 3:00 PM.
