Saint Joseph’s College Announces Construction of Lighted Turf Field/Track Complex

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College is pleased to announce that work has begun on a lighted turf field/outdoor track complex. The facility will encompass the section of campus formerly occupied by Westerlea Way Field as well as several acres of land in the surrounding area.

The Saint Joseph's Board of Trustees approved the project earlier this fall and construction began shortly after the final game was played at Westerlea Way Field in early November.

The new complex will serve as the home venue for the Monks' men's and women's soccer and field hockey programs in the fall as well as the men's and women's lacrosse and men's and women's outdoor track and field teams in the spring.

The College plans to host a Groundbreaking Ceremony in the spring of 2017.

For this complex, the College has also recently announced the start of a new fundraising campaign called 'The Light The Way Challenge.' This campaign will provide $400,000 toward Phase I of SJC's large plan for new facilities.

This campaign, offered by the Putnam Family to underwrite the distinctive lighting for the new facility, is in honor of Dick Bailey, former Dean of Students at Saint Joseph's College and current co-head softball coach, a man who lit the way for SJC students for 16 years.
