SJC Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2022 Announced

Kevin Fitzgerald '88, Lauren Hagerman '10, Kayla Nowell '11, and Jonathan Horgan '12 comprise 19th SJC Hall Class

STANDISH, Maine – The 19th Saint Joseph's College Athletics Hall of Fame Class has been announced. Kevin Fitzgerald '88, Lauren Hagerman '10, Kayla Nowell '11, and Jonathan Horgan '12 will be inducted into the Hall of Fame with a ceremony on Saturday, September 10th, 2022.

A Haverhill, Massachusetts native, Kevin Fitzgerald was one of the finest infielders to ever don the Monks' uniform. In 146 career games, the four-year starting shortstop hit .327 (157-480) with 122 runs, 26 doubles, 11 triples, 12 home runs, 102 RBI and 38 stolen bases and helped lead Saint Joseph's to NAIA New England Championships in 1986 and 1988.

Following the 1986 season, Fitzgerald garnered NAIA All-America, All-Area, and All-District accolades after hitting .350 (48-137) with 37 runs, nine doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 39 RBI and five stolen bases during his sophomore season.

When he graduated in 1988, Fitzgerald ranked in the top five in virtually every offensive category and was the program's career leader in games, at bats, and runs. At the time of his induction, he remains among the Monks' all-time leaders in runs, triples, and stolen bases.

Lauren Hagerman, who hails from nearby Scarborough, was a two-sport standout as a member of the Saint Joseph's soccer and lacrosse programs.

In 79 career games on the soccer pitch, Hagerman netted seven goals with 10 assists for 24 total points and earned Second Team All-Conference honors following her junior season. At the time of her induction, the 2009 team captain ranked second in program history in games played.

An elite talent during the women's lacrosse program's first three seasons, Hagerman tallied 130 goals and 77 assists for 207 total points along with 133 ground balls and 157 draw controls in just 39 career games. The Nursing major graduated in 2010 as the Monks' career leader in points, assists and draw controls and remains among the program's best in each of these statistical categories.

Hagerman earned a pair of First Team All-Conference accolades and enjoyed her best season as a senior, when she scored 54 goals with 29 assists for 83 total points along with 53 ground balls and 55 draw controls. She helped the Monks reach the GNAC Tournament during each of her three seasons and claimed a trio of GNAC All-Tournament honors.

Kayla Nowell, who came to Saint Joseph's by way of Bridgton, Maine and Lake Region High School, was an offensive force who essentially rewrote the Monks' field hockey record book and played an important role in helping the program grow into one of the best in New England.

In 75 career games, the two-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region honoree established new team records for goals (57), points (146), shots (346) and game-winning goals (13). In 2022, she still holds the program's shots record and ranks second in goals, assists (32), points, and game-winners.

Her efforts helped the Monks earn a pair of ECAC Tournament berths, claim two North Atlantic Conference (NAC) regular-season championships, and post a four-year record of 56-23 (.709), including an incredible 19-1 (.950) mark in NAC play.

A three-time First Team All-Conference selection, Nowell enjoyed her finest year as a sophomore, when she shattered the Monks' single-season records for goals (21), assists (15), points (57) and shots (122). At the time of her induction, she remains as the record holder for points and shots in a season while her 21-goal tally stood as the team's high-water mark for 10 years.

A native of Hingham, Massachusetts, Jonathan Horgan is the first men's lacrosse player to enter the SJC Athletics Hall of Fame. Despite missing his sophomore season due to injury, the two-year captain graduated in 2012 as the Monks' all-time leader in goals (111), assists (67) and points (178) and, at the time of his induction, remains second in team history in goals and points and third in assists.

A two-time First Team All-Conference selection, Horgan was the first St. Joe's men's lacrosse player to garner ECAC All-New England and NEILA Senior All-Star Game recognition with both honors coming after his senior season. Remarkably consistent, he tallied at least 54 points in each of his three seasons, including his senior year when he scored 41 goals with 20 assists for 61 points and added eight man-up goals, 67 ground balls, and 18 caused turnovers in 16 contests.

Horgan's presence helped the Monks advance to the postseason in each of his four years, including 2011 when they notched the program's first playoff victory - a 10-9 win over Becker College in the first round of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Tournament.

Horgan remains connected to the SJC men's lacrosse program and has served as a top assistant coach on the Monks' staff since 2017. Elevated to the Associate Head Coach role prior to the 2020 campaign, Horgan has helped the program develop into an annual contender in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

With the addition of the 2022 honorees, the list of accomplished athletes, teams, coaches, administrators, and philanthropists inducted in the SJC Athletics Hall of Fame grows to 101. The complete list of inductees can be found HERE
