STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College Esports program seeks challengers for the team's second full year of gaming, comradery, and competition.
In the unique year that lies ahead, the Monks Esports team figures to claim an even stronger foothold on campus by offering a variety of online competitions on a wide array of platforms, including Overwatch, Valorant, COD, League of Legends, and many more.
Starting this fall, the fledgling program will be challenged to compete on a regional and national level versus Esports teams from other colleges and universities. During the 2019-20 academic year, the SJC Esports team – a club program – focused on building a strong corps of gamers and competed internally while also hosting tournaments that are open to all students.
The program is also excited to unveil a campus-wide contest, which will culminate with the winner taking home the first-ever 'Monks Esports Trophy.' Every dorm on campus will compete for prizes during the contest with more details to come as the academic year nears.
In following Maine CDC and Saint Joseph's College guidelines, the Esports Lounge will undergo a rigorous cleaning process daily to ensure the health and safety of all users. Along with the customary controllers and computer mice, the College will also provide cleaning supplies for use in the Esports Lounge, allowing gamers to easily clean the items they used and maintain a safe environment.
"There is obviously so much going on in the world, I am thrilled to provide an even better experience for our students going into the 2020-21 academic year," adds Esports Head Coach Domonic McGuire. "The Saint Joseph's College leadership team has fully supported our efforts from the very start and understands how the Esports program can help enrich the lives of our students during these challenging times."
