St. Joe's Sinks Regis, 141-85

STANDISH, ME - The SJC Women's Swim team improved to 2-1 with a 141-85 victory over Regis College at the Harold Alfond Center Pool on Saturday afternoon. The Monks earned victories in 10 of 13 events and several individuals captured multiple top finishes during the competition.

Christine Cote '13 (Biddeford, ME) put up a pair of first-place efforts and a runner-up finish for the Monks. The freshman won the 200-Free (2:16.40) and 100-Free (1:02.31) competitions and placed second, behind teammate Danielle Harmon '10 (Poland, ME), in the 50-Fly (32.49). Harmon led the pack with a 31.92 performance in the event.

Ashton Piers '10 (Falmouth, ME/Deering) captured top finishes in the 100-Fly (1:10.54) and 100-Breast (1:21.08) events and Hannah Gajewski '12 (Biddeford, ME/McAuley) won the 50-Breast (36.42) and 500-Free (5:46.48) competitions for St. Joe's.

Also posting first-place efforts were Katie Brooks '11 (North Kingstown, RI), who won the 100-Back (1:12.20), and Rose Maccarrone '12 (Hingham, MA), who won the 50-Free (28.44). Brooks also earned a second-place finish in the 200-Back (2:34.80) event.

Brooks, Gajewski, Piers and Jamie Wojtkiewicz '12 (Bedford, NH) kicked off the competition with a win in the 200-Medley relay with a 2:08.75 performance.

St. Joe's will close out the 2009 portion of the season when the Monks participate in the GNAC Championship, hosted by Simmons College, on December 5th and 6th. The meet begins at 10:00 AM both days.
