Nor'easters Swim Past Monks, 157-104

BIDDEFORD, ME - Saint Joseph's College (5-2) lost to University of New England, 157-104, in a head-to-head swim meet on Wednesday evening. Hannah Gajewski '12 (Biddeford, ME/McAuley) led the Monks with a pair of individual top finishes and a runner-up performance in the event.

Gajewski won the 200-IM (2:26.11) and 100-IM (1:07.99) events, placed second in the 200-Breast (2:47.89) and swam a leg for the runner-up 200-Medley relay team, which posted a 2:08.93 time.

Rose Maccarrone '12 (Hingham, MA) won the 50-Breast with a 36.61 effort and Ashton Piers '10 (Falmouth, ME/Deering) raced to a 32.53 time in the 50-Fly to capture individual honors in the event. Both swimmers also notched third-place efforts in the event.

Christine Cote '13 (Biddeford, ME) earned second-place finishes in the 50-Free (28.48) and 100-Free (1:02.68) and Amanda Lanoix '12 (Lyman, ME) also gained a pair of runner-up honors in the 200-Free (2:18.70) and 500-Free (6:09.31) competitions.

Anne Roberts '12 (Hopkinton, NH) also notched a solid performance for the Monks with a runner-up effort in the 50-Back (34.19) and a third-place run in the 200-Back (2:33.99). She also swam a leg for the runner-up 200-Medley relay team along with Gajewski, Piers and Cote.

Jamie Wojtkiewicz '12 (Bedford, NH), Roberts, Piers and Maccarrone swam legs for the 200-Free relay team, which posted a 1:56.59 effort and earned a second-place finish.

Both teams are off until the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships, which will be held February 19-22 at the Upper Valley Aquatics Center in White River Junction, VT.
