2016 NEISDA Championships - Day Three Recap

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Saint Joseph's College swim teams concluded the 2016 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships at University of Rhode Island on Sunday evening. The men's team capped the three-day event in 11th place with 161 points while the women finished 18th with 136 points.

COMPLETE RESULTS

Roger Williams University claimed the women's team title with 1,453 points with Keene State College capturing runner-up honors with 1,386 points. Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Simmons College clocked a third-place finish with 1,093 points.

On the men's side, Keene State won in a landslide with 866 points, well ahead of runner-up Roger Williams, which tallied 599.5 points, and GNAC foe Norwich University with 508.5 points.

THE RUNDOWN – DAY 3 WOMEN'S FINALS:

  • Junior Lauren Halvorsen (South Portland, Maine) raced in the 1650-Free finals and finished 19th with a 20:01.40 performance
  • Senior Brooke Huberdeau (Andover, Mass.) also participated in the 1650-Free final and was 22nd with a 20:07.67 effort
  • Halvorsen, Fougere, Prue, and Huberdeau completed the 2016 NEISDA Championship for the Monks with a 4:11.56 performance and 16th-place finish in the 400-Free relay finals

THE RUNDOWN – DAY 3 MEN'S FINALS:

  • Junior Ben Johnson (Belmont, Mass.) broke the team's 200-Fly record in the prelims with a 2:04.07 time and went on to surpass the mark with a 2:03.24 effort, and ninth-place finish, in the finals
  • Senior Andrew Merlino (Natick, Mass.) notched the first top-eight NEISDA finish of his career with a 26.59 time in the 50-Back
  • Senior Alexander Gilvey (Windham, Maine) finished 11th in the 50-Back (27.02)
  • Merlino, freshman Zack Gryskwicz (Standish, Maine), Gilvey, and Johnson raced in a 200-Free relay time trial and broke the team record with a 1:32.52 time

THE RUNDOWN – DAY 3 WOMEN'S PRELIMS:

  • Freshman Julia Rowlett (Saco, Maine) was 19th in the 50-Back (31.87)
  • Senior Allie Krasco (Melrose, Mass.) finished 27th in the 50-Back (32.97)
  • Senior Annie Fougere (Warner, N.H.) placed 22nd in the 200-Breast (2:48.61)
  • Junior Lauren Prue (Glenburn, Maine) was 24th in the 100-IM (1:11.88)
  • Halvorsen, Fougere, Prue, and Huberdeau raced in the 400-Free relay and finished 16th with a 4:13.90 effort

THE RUNDOWN – DAY 3 MEN'S PRELIMS:

  • Merlino placed eighth in the 50-Back (26.70)
  • Johnson finished ninth in the 200-Fly (2:04.07)
  • Gilvey was 12th in the 50-Back (27.67)
  • Johnson, Gryskwicz, Merlino, and Gilvey finished ninth in the 400-Free relay with a 3:26.26 performance
