KINGSTON, R.I. – Saint Joseph's College finished the first complete day of the 2017 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Championships (NEISDA) at University of Rhode Island on Friday night. Through 20 events, the men are in 11th place with 39 points while the women are currently in 16th with 79 points.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
- Freshman Emily Roy (Sidney, Maine) advanced to the 200-Back finals and finished 16th with a 2:23.55 effort – she also tied the Monks' 100-Back record leading off the 400-Medley Relay
- Roy, Autumn Nostrom (Lyman, Maine), Julia Rowlett (Saco, Maine), and Alexis Coiley (Fort Fairfield, Maine) posted a 4:38.10 time in the 400-Medley Relay trials and finished 15th in the finals with a 4:35.59 performance
- Alicia Robinson (Gorham, Maine), Coiley, Erin Weir (North Andover, Mass.), and Lauren Halvorsen (South Portland, Maine) placed 15th in the 800-Free Relay (8:55.83)
- Halvorsen and Coiley both competed in the 500-Free prelims with 5:57.37 and 5:58.01 times, respectively
- Robinson and Weir posted times of 28.13 and 28.87 in the 50-Free trials, respectively
- Nostrom competed in the 50-Breast trials (37.31), Rowlett raced in the 200-Back prelims (2:27.59), and senior Lauren Prue (Glenburn, Maine) posted a 2:33.13 time in the 200-IM trials
- Coiley, Nostrom, Weir, and Robinson registered a 1:52.48 effort in the 200-Free Relay trials
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
- Sophomore Stephen Quinlan (Andover, Mass.) highlighted the men's docket by qualifying for the finals in the 50-Breast and 200-IM events – he finished 14th in the former (31.99) and was 13th in the latter (2:15.14)
- Sophomore Zack Gryskwicz (Standish, Maine) was less than a second away from breaking the Monks' 500-Free record with a 5:21.92 effort in the preliminary round (Chris Cullity owns the mark with a 5:20.07 time)
- Quinlan, Gryskwicz, Austin Bear (Hanover, Maine) and Madison Bodine (South China, Maine) comprised the SJC 400-Medley Relay squad, which posted a 4:25.00 effort in the prelims and finished eighth in the finals with a 4:22.28 performance
- Bodine competed in the 50-Free prelims (25.02)
- Bodine, Gryskwicz, Quinlan, and Bear posted a 1:43.44 time in the 200-Free Relay trials

The second day of the NEISDA Championship begins Saturday with the preliminary races at 10:00 AM while the day's finals start at 6:00 PM.
