ON THIS DATE - Swim Program Makes History on Opening Day

On November 2nd, 2013 the Saint Joseph's College swim program made history when the men's and women's teams defeated Husson University in the opening meet of the 2013-14 season at the Harold Alfond Center.

The women edged the Eagles by a 131-121 score and the men cruised to a 139-50 triumph in the opening event of the year, marking the first sweep in the seven-year history of the Saint Joseph's swim program.

On the men's side, sophomore Alex Gilvey (Windham, Maine) won a pair of individual events with a 1:58.28 time in the 200-Free and a 57.44 effort in the 100-Back and also swam the 100-IM in 1:00.26. Freshman Ben Johnson (Belmont, Mass.) broke a pair of program records with victories in the 100-Fly (57.04) and 50-Free (25.68) and also won the 100-Breast (1:07.57) in his first NCAA meet.

 

For the women, sophomore Anne Fougere (Warner, N.H.) helped lead the Royal Blue to a narrow victory with wins in the 50-Breast (37.43) and 100-Breast (1:22.68) and first-year Danielle Charette (Westfield, Mass.) added top finishes in the 200-Free (2:15.19) and 500-Free (5:59.23) events.
