A four-year standout for the Monks’ women’s basketball program, McCarthy later claimed national recognition as one of the most prominent female marathoners in the country

On the hardwood, McCarthy helped Saint Joseph’s post a 96-23 (.808) overall record, including a 29-3 (.906) mark in conference play, with four WMAC Championships, three NAIA New England titles, and three trips to the NAIA National Tournament

Earned a pair of NAIA All-District honors and registered 859 points, 603 assists, 253 steals and 228 rebounds in 117 career contests and ranks among the Monks’ career leaders in assists (2nd), assists average (5.2, 2nd), games (3rd), steals (4th), and three-point percentage (34.9%, 5th)

McCarthy set the Monks' single-game assists mark (15) against UNE on December 12th, 1990 – a mark that stands at the time of her induction

In a span of 10 years, McCarthy competed in over 150 races, including nearly 25 marathons, and finished as the top American female - 99th out of 21,616 participants overall - with a 2:41:55 time in the 2012 Boston Marathon and claimed three United States Women's Masters Championships with three appearances in the Olympic Marathon Trials
