Bill Green to Emcee Hall of Fame Ceremony, Usher in New Format

STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony, to be held on Friday, October 6th (4:00 PM) at The Stone Barn on campus, will feature a much different format this year.

For those who have attended SJC Hall of Fame ceremonies in years past, the most noticeable difference will be evident from the very start, as Maine media legend Bill Green, who worked for News Center Maine (WCSH/WLBZ) for more than 47 years, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.

A three-time Maine Sportscaster of the Year award recipient, he is widely known for his weekly magazine program, "Bill Green's Maine," which ran every Saturday evening for 20 years, as well as his Monday evening segment, "The Green Outdoors."

Green, who retired in 2019, was inducted into the Silver Circle of the Boston/New England chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2016.  He is also an inductee into the Maine Broadcasters' Hall of Fame and the Maine Sports Hall of Fame.

"We're thrilled to have Bill Green as our Master of Ceremonies," says Hall of Fame Committee Chair Corey McCarthy. "His level of professionalism is unsurpassed, and he is one of the most personable people you could ever meet. Bill's presence will help us provide the most memorable experience possible for our inductees and those in attendance."

To enhance the experience for our inductees, they will be interviewed by Green on stage after a 60-90 second slideshow, detailing personal career highlights, is shown on a large screen.

"After a lengthy and thorough review process, the Hall of Fame Committee has created a new structure for the annual induction ceremony," McCarthy continues. "The new format certainly takes the pressure off presenters and inductees, who previously were asked to present speeches, while preserving the storytelling aspect of the evening that is enjoyed by all."

The 2023 SJC Athletics Hall of Fame festivities begin at The Stone Barn on October 6th at 4:00 PM with a 'plaque-revealing' reception and is followed by the induction ceremony. The cost to attend is $30 for adults and $10 for children under the age of 12. As always, all current members of The Hall of Fame receive one free admission into this and all future Hall of Fame ceremonies. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available. The 20th Saint Joseph's College Athletics Hall of Fame Class features Sarah Hawkes '13 (Volleyball), Theresa Hendrix '14 (Field Hockey/Basketball/Softball), Todd Keneborus '11 (Baseball), Elbie Murphy '09 (Basketball), Paul Robins '11 (Soccer) and the 1981 Softball Team.

The SJC Hall of Fame was established in 2000 and was developed by a standing committee and at-large members and was founded to honor past athletes, faculty, staff, and friends who, through their actions, have brought distinction through athletics to themselves and to Saint Joseph's College.

With the addition of the 2023 honorees, the list of accomplished athletes, teams, coaches, administrators, and philanthropists inducted in the SJC Athletics Hall of Fame grows to 106. The complete list of inductees can be found HERE
