STANDISH, ME - The St. Joe's men's lacrosse team (1-7) defeated
the Lyndon State College Hornets (1-7), 13-6 on Saturday to record
the first victory in program history. FY Elliot
LaMarre (Raymond, ME) tallied 4 goals and 11
ground balls to lead the Monks in both categories and goalkeeper SR
Brendan Dyer (New Gloucester, ME)
made 8 saves between the pipes to help secure the victory for the
first-year program.
SR Tyler Arsenault (Kennebunk,
ME) scored the first goal of the game off a pass from JR
Ryan Prescott (Pittsfield, NH)
less than a minute into the first quarter (14:08) and LaMarre
notched a tally at the 10:32 mark to give the Monks a 2-0 lead over
the Hornets with Arsenault recording the assist.
After Lyndon State scored two goals in the following four minutes
of play, St. Joe's countered with two goals of their own to regain
the two goal advantage, 4-2. LaMarre scored his
second goal of the game at the 3:11 mark and SO
Luke LaFreniere (Alton, NH) found
the back of the net one minute later with
Arsenault registering the helper to conclude the
scoring in the first quarter. Chris Mansour (Mansfield, MA) and
Scott Scott (Amhurst, NH) were credited with the LSC goals.
The Monks and Hornets swapped goals in the second quarter as St.
Joe's led Lyndon State 5-3 going into the intermission.
LaFreniere scored the SJC goal with 11:31
remaining in the quarter and FY Michael
Hughes (Braintree, MA) was awarded with an assist
on the play. Myles Hacking (St. Johnsbury, VT) scored the goal for
Lyndon State at the 12:18 mark.
Lyndon State made it a one-goal game with a score from Chris
Mansour just 29 seconds into the third quarter to diminish the SJC
lead to 5-4. The Monks went on to rattle off seven consecutive
goals in the subsequent 20 minutes to take gain a 12-5 lead.
Prescott, LaMarre and FY
Kody Peckham (West Gardiner, ME)
each scored a pair of goals and LaFreniere added
his third goal of the contest in the SJC offensive surge that
helped the Monks attain the historic victory.
St. Joe's attacker Peckham scored his third goal
and Scott Scott added his second goal of the game for the Hornets
in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter to wrap up the game
scoring with the Monks on top, 13-6.
Besides scoring four goals and picking up 11 groundballs for the
Monks, Elliot LaMarre helped set
the tone for the game with his 9-14 performance in the face-off
circle. Tyler Arsenault filled
the playmaker role with four assists and added a goal, three
face-off wins and six groundballs and Kody Peckham
netted three goals, two assists and three groundballs.
Luke LaFreniere collected three
goals, an assist and six groundballs, Ryan
Prescott added two goals, an assist and seven
groundballs and FY Blake Edwards
(Glide, OR) collected six groundballs in the team's first-ever
victory.
For the Hornets, Chris Mansour netted three scores and teammate
Scott Scott added a pair of goals in the loss. LSC goalkeeper Matt
Adams (Duxbury, MA) made 14 saves in the contest.
The Monks will host University of New England on Tuesday, April
22nd at 4:00 PM.
