STANDISH, ME - The Monks (0-7) were defeated 10-7 by the
visiting Thomas College Terriers in the first lacrosse game ever
played on the campus of Saint Joseph's College on Tuesday
afternoon. FY Tokunbo Amosun
(Gardiner, ME) scored three goals, including the first marker of
the game, and goalkeeper SR Brendan
Dyer (New Gloucester, ME) recorded 18 saves in the
loss.
Amosun scored the first goal of the game and first
ever on a SJC field, a man-up tally, at the 9:51 mark to give the
Monks a 1-0 lead. Thomas fired back with four unanswered goals to
take a 4-1 lead going into the second quarter.
St. Joe's drew closer to the Terriers when Amosun
notched his second goal of the game 1:18 into the second quarter.
Thomas countered with goal to take a 5-2 lead before FY
Kody Peckham (West Gardiner, ME)
took a pass from SR Tyler
Arsenault (Kennebunk, ME) to make it a two-goal
game at the 8:16 mark of the second. The Terriers fought back to
score two minutes later to regain a 3 goal advantage, 6-3.
Amosun and SO Luke
LaFreniere (Alton, NH) both scored goals in the
waning minutes of the first half to bring the Monks within one
score of tying the game and make the score 6-5, Terriers, going
into the intermission.
The Monks and Terriers exchanged a pair of goals in the third
period as Arsenault and FY Elliot
LaMarre (Raymond, ME) both netted goals for the
Monks to hold the Terriers to a one goal advantage, 8-7, going into
the final quarter. LaMarre's tally was of the man-up variety.
The Monks held up their end of the bargain in the fourth quarte but
were unable to find the back of the net. St. Joe's outshot the
Terriers 12-10 and forced TC goalkeeper Josh Collelo to make 6
saves, many at close range. Luke LaFreniere had two great scoring
chances during a man-up opportunity late in the quarter only to
come up empty-handed after great saves by Collelo. Thomas added two
goals in the fourth to make the final score 10-7.
For St. Joe's, Tokunbo Amosun
netted a hat trick and five shots on goal, Kody
Peckham tallied a goal and an assist,
Elliot LaMarre scored a goal,
collected 4 groundballs and won 6 faceoffs, Tyler
Arsenault notched a goal, 2 assists and won two
faceoffs, Luke LaFreniere netted
a goal, steered 5 goals on net and collected 7 groundballs and FY
Lucas Ward (Raymond, ME)
collected 6 groundballs in the loss.
For Thomas, Kolby Peckham scored three goals and placed 10 shots on
net and goalkeeper Josh Collelo made 11 saves in the victory.
St. Joe's will host Lyndon State College on Saturday, April 19th at
1:00 PM.
