CASTLETON, VT - Castleton State (7-4, 6-0 NAC)
defeated Saint Joseph's (3-8, 1-5), 23-3, in a North Atlantic
Conference men's lacrosse contest on Tuesday afternoon.
Jonathan Horgan '12 (Hingham,
MA), Kody Peckham '11 (West
Gardiner, ME) and Luke LaFreniere
'10 (Alton, NH) each scored a goal in the losing effort for the
Monks.
Don Gearan '12 (Gorham, ME)
stopped 12 shots in the loss, before being relieved by
Nick Hannon '09 (Windham, ME),
who made one save.
Castleton received goals from 12 different players,
including four each from Michael DelDotto and Ryan Bartlett.
Daniel Luzzi put Castleton on the board with 10:49 remaining in the
period, and the Spartans went on to score the first 11 goals of the
contest before St. Joseph's could break through. Bartlett scored
three of his four goals during the first half, while Jeremy Peyton
also added three first-half goals. Peyton also added a pair of
assists, finishing up with a game-high five points. Jake Rick added
four assists and a game-high 10 ground balls, while Phil Barry
added two goals and two assists. Luzzi ended the game with two
goals, while David Whitlock scored the first two goals of his
collegiate career to round out the multiple-point scorers for
Castleton.
Michael Mamunes earned the win, stopping the only shot that came
his way as Castleton improves to 7-4 overall and 6-0 in NAC play.
Freshman David DeGhetto stopped six shots over the final 34:00 for
Castleton.
The Spartans return to NAC action Saturday as the Spartans play
host to Husson University at 12:00 pm. St. Joseph's will play host
to Salem State Thursday at 4:00 pm in non-league action.
