CASTINE, ME - Maine Maritime Academy (3-0, 3-0 NAC)
defeated Saint Joseph's (2-3, 0-2), 24-7, in North Atlantic
Conference action on Saturday afternoon. Jonathan
Horgan '12 (Hingham, MA) netted five goals in the
losing effort.
MMA held a 15-2 advantage at the half and cruised to a 17-goal
victory to stay atop the NAC standings.
Paul Dolewa ‘12 (Saco, ME)
and Luke LaFreniere '10 (Alton,
NH) each added a goal for the Monks. Goalkeeper
Marco Stefano '12 (Steep Falls,
ME) took the loss, making 15 saves while giving up 19 goals.
Nick Hannon '09 (Windham, ME)
gave up five MMA goals while making four saves in 18 minutes of
action for St. Joe's.
With his fourth goal of the game, Horgan broke the
program's single-season points record, set by Kody
Peckham '11 (West Gardiner, ME) and Tyler
Arsenault '08, who both scored 20 points last season in
the program's first year at the varsity level. His final goal of
the contest gave him 14 through five games, which puts him in a tie
with Peckham for the single-season high.
MMA attacker Andrew DiSalvo '12 (Glastonbury, CT) tied a school
record with 10 goals on the afternoon and has accumulated 21 goals
and 14 assists for 35 points in his first three collegiate games.
Freshman goalie Daniel Redmond (Westbrook, ME) made 21 saves on 41
shots and picked up his third win of the season.
The Mariners' return to action on Wednesday when they travel to
Husson University for a 3:30 PM start, while St. Joe's gets back on
the field Monday at home with a 7:15 PM matchup against the Eagles.
