PORTLAND, ME - The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team fell to
0-2 on the season after suffering a 21-5 defeat at the hands of
Southern Maine (2-1) at Deering Memorial Stadium on Wednesday
evening. Monks midfielder Ryan
Prescott '09 (Pittsfield, NH) tallied a goal and
an assist while collecting a career-high eight groundballs in the
loss.
Senior Preston Gilbert (Saco, ME/Cheverus) scored a record-tying
six goals to lead the University of Southern Maine. The 21 goals
scored tied the USM single-game record for most goals scored.
Gilbert scored five of his six goals in the first half as the
Huskies built a commanding 14-3 advantage. The Huskies scored the
first five goals of the game, including a pair by Gilbert 13
seconds apart, to open a 5-0 lead and never looked back. This is
the second time in his career that Gilbert has scored six goals in
one game, a record he shares with five other players.
Freshmen Jonathan Horgan
(Hingham, MA) and Benson
Pasquarello (Kennebunk, ME) got the Monks on the
board in the first quarter, closing the gap to 5-2. But that's as
close as the Monks would get as the Huskies scored eight straight
goals to increase their lead to 13-2.
Southern Maine put the contest away in the third quarter,
outscoring Saint Joseph's 5-0. Each team had two goals in the
fourth quarter. St. Joe's freshman Don

Stannard (Hartford,VT) chipped in two goals and a team-high three
