STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse postseason accolades have been announced and five Saint Joseph's College players have been honored.
Senior defender Liam Skinner (Irving, Texas) and junior defender Raymond Emery (Abington, Mass.) have garnered Second Team All-GNAC honors while junior attack Michael Finn (Quincy, Mass.), senior defender Tom Lisiecki (South Boston, Mass.), and senior goalkeeper Connor Trainor (Franklin, Mass.) have been listed on the Third Team.
The bulk of the Monks' defense collects All-GNAC accolades after St. Joe's led the conference in goals-against average (8.89) and man-down defense (.778) and ranked second in the GNAC in caused turnovers per game (8.79).
Skinner, a 2017 Third Team honoree, claims Second Team honors after registering career-highs in ground balls (78) and caused turnovers (43) during his senior season. He ranked second in the conference in caused turnovers and seventh in ground balls this spring and capped his career as the Monks' all-time leader in caused turnovers (144) and picked up the second-most ground balls (239) in team history.
Emery earns the first All-Conference honor of his career after posting 24 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers as a junior. The lockdown defender was tasked with shutting down the opponents' top offensive player and held several of the conference's leading scorers to season-low outputs this spring.
Finn collects Third Team acclaim after leading the conference in goals (50), man-up goals (14), and shots on goal (106) during his junior season. He broke the Monks' career (120) and single-season goals records this spring and heads into his junior campaign ranked second in team history in shots (379), shots on goal (237) and man-up goals (25) and third in total points (147).
Lisiecki also claims his first All-Conference honor after tallying 28 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers as a senior defender. The four-year starter finished his career with 60 ground balls and 53 caused turnovers in 60 games played.
Trainor, another first-time All-Conference recipient, earns Third Team honors after posting a 9.59 goals-against average with a .505 save percentage during his senior season. He led the conference in wins (10), ranked second in games (19) and minutes (1000:32), and fourth in goals-against average this spring and completed his NCAA career second in team history in goalkeeper games (60), minutes (2,906), saves (527), wins (23), and shots faced (1679) and third in goals-against average (9.81) and save percentage (.526).
Under the watch of second-year Head Coach Bill Cosentino, Saint Joseph's posted a 10-9 overall record with 5-4 mark in conference play this spring en route to earning the #4 seed in the GNAC Tournament. Making their first postseason appearance since 2014, the Monks defeated fifth-seeded Rivier University, 11-10, in a conference quarterfinal at home on April 28th before falling to top-seeded Norwich University, 17-8, on the road four days later.
The 2018 Monks established new team records in shots (803), shots on goal (464) and man-up goals (47) and posted the third winning-season – and first since 2011 – in program history.
