Six Team Records Fall in Men's Swimming Exhibition

BANGOR, ME – The SJC men's swim team participated in an exhibition at Husson University on Saturday afternoon.

The Monks broke six team records in the season-opening event with four marks being topped by what certainly looks to be a very impressive freshman class.

Freshman John Holmes (Norwood, Mass.) led the way with two team-record efforts as the first-year bested the 100-Free mark with a 52.04 time and the 50-Free record with a 23.26 performance.

Chris Cullity (North Reading, Mass.) topped the previous 500-Free mark by over two seconds with a 5:26.52 effort and Antonio Delvecchio (Middlebury, Conn.) put his name in the SJC record book with a 1:59.17 time in the 200-Free.

The Monks also broke a pair of relay records. The quartet of Kevin Towne '12 (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Adam Gaulin '14 (Belfast, Maine), Delvecchio and Holmes combined to break the 200-Medley relay record with a 1:47.60 effort and the group of Delvecchio, Thomas Smith '14 (New Hartford, Conn.), Cullity and Holmes notched a new 200-Free relay team record (1:38.22).

Gaulin, Towne, Smith, Holmes, Cullity, Delvecchio, Stewart Emery '15 (Augusta, Maine) and Preston Bowden '15 (Biddeford, Maine) all achieved NEISDA A cut times in the season opener.

Saint Joseph's will compete against Elms College on the road next Saturday at 1:00 PM.
