GNAC CHAMPIONSHIPS: Women Place Third, Men Fourth, Overall

GNAC RELEASE l COMPLETE RESULTS

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Saint Joseph's College women's team closed out the 2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships in third place with 553 points at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Sports and Recreation Center on Sunday.

The SJC men's team capped the weekend in fourth place with 34 total points.

Norwich University won both titles for the second-consecutive season, as the NU women coasted to the 2024 GNAC title with 894.5 points and the Cadet men captured the fifth GNAC Championship in team history with 512 points.

On the women's side, Simmons University placed second with 781 points and was followed in the standings by the Monks, Regis College (509.5 pts), Elms College (440 pts), University of Saint Joseph (402.5 pts), Albertus Magnus College (173.5 pts), and Colby-Sawyer College (172 pts).

For the men, Regis finished in a distant second with 180 points while Colby-Sawyer was third (40 pts), USJ placed fifth (29 pts), and Albertus Magnus finished sixth (7 pts).

A total of nine SJC program records were broken this weekend, including three by senior Brooke Podsiadlo (Granby, Mass.) and a pair set by freshman Berkley Hutchins (Springfield, Vt.). A trio of relay team records fell as well, as new 200-Medley, 200-Free, and 400-Free marks were set at the 2024 GNAC Championship.

Hutchins highlighted the event for the Monks by claiming GNAC Women's Swimming & Diving Co-Rookie of the Year honors. The freshman, who shares the accolade with Colby-Sawyer first-year Rebecca Radonovich, recorded three victories, set a pair of program records, swam legs for three team-record relay quartets, and racked up a team-high 72 individual points in her first conference championship event. She is the first SJC swimmer to win three GNAC Championship events and fourth individual - first since 2013 - to claim GNAC Rookie of the Year honors, as she joins Lindsay D'Ascanio (2008), Hannah Gajewski (2009), and Lauren Rabideau (2013) on the short list of Monks' honorees.

The Monks recorded 13 All-Conference honors – bestowed upon the top three finishers in each finals event – as Podsiadlo secured four All-GNAC nods with three second-place efforts and a third-place time, Hutchins claimed three All-GNAC awards after winning three events, juniors Kiley Matthews (South Portland, Maine) and Tiffany Twombly (Sanford, Maine) tallied a pair of All-Conference accolades, and sophomore Lucas Fendl (Ellsworth, Maine) picked up two All-GNAC honors.

Members of the Monks' runner-up 200-Medley and third-place finishing 400-Free, and 200-Free relay teams also earned All-Conference accolades.

The 2024 GNAC Championship brings a close to the 2023-24 season and the college careers for the Monks' three seniors: Shawn Perry (Timberlake, N.H.), Brooke Podsiadlo (Granby, Mass.), and Ashley Thompson (Granby, Conn.).
