Monks Fall Short versus University of New England

STANDISH, ME – University of New England defeated Saint Joseph's College, 127-111, in men's swimming action at the Harold Alfond Center Pool on Monday.

A pair of program records fell in the losing effort as Antonio Delvecchio '15 (Middlebury, Conn.) broke the 50-Fly mark with a 26.85 effort and Adam Gaulin '14 (Belfast, Maine) posted a 2:30.69 time to tip the 200-Fly record.

Tom Smith '14 (New Hartford, Conn.) enjoyed a fine day with a winning time in the 100-Breast (1:11.99) and runner-up efforts in the 500-Free (5:39.18) and 100-IM (1:03.84) events. Chris Cullity '15 (North Reading, Mass.) placed first in the 500-Free (5:34.28) and was second in the 200-Free (2:04.64) and John Holmes '15 (Norwood, Mass.) was just off pace in a runner-up 50-Free (23.25) performance and also placed second in the 100-Free (54.54).

Delvecchio won the 200-Free (1:57.94) and placed third in the 50-Free (24.60) and Gaulin garnered runner-up performances in the 400-IM (4:54.73) and 200-Breast (2:32.44) for Saint Joseph's. Kevin Towne '12 (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was second in the 100-Back (1:01.97) and 200-Back (2:16.51) and finished third in the 100-IM (1:04.74) and Stewart Emery '15 (Augusta, Maine) placed third in the 100-Free (58.04) and 500-Free (6:11.32) competitions.

The SJC 200-Free relay team of Cullity, Brian Grasser '12 (Groton, Conn.), Smith and Holmes closed out the event with a victory after posting a 1:39.21 effort.

Saint Joseph's will swim an exhibition against Simmons College at the Alfond Center on Saturday at 1:00 PM. The Monks will honor the prgoram's two seniors, Towne and Grasser, with a ceremony prior to the event, which will be the team's final home meet of the season.
