Men Swim in Exhibition Meet

STANDISH, ME - The Saint Joseph's College men's swim team participated in an exhibition meet when Simmons College swam versus the SJC women's team at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday.

Prior to the start of the meet the Monks' two seniors - Brian Grasser (Groton, Conn.) and Kevin Towne (Shrewsbury, Mass.) - were honored with a ceremony to honor their achievements as four-year team members. Combined, this pair has competed in 120 individual events with 28 victories and 19 runner-up efforts since the start of the 2008-09 campaign.

One team record fell on Saturday as the Monks' 200-Free relay 'B' team of Preston Bowden '15 (Biddeford, Maine), Grasser, Chris Cullity '15 (North Reading, Mass.) and John Holmes '15 (Norwood, Mass.) bested the former mark by .02 in the exhibition meet.

Several personal-bests were set on the afternoon, including Grasser setting a new top time in the 50-Free (25.80). The senior co-captain also competed in the 50-Back for the first time and posted a 35.44 effort.

Other SJC personal-bests on the day included Bowden in the 100-Free (1:03.94) and Stewart Emery '15 (Augusta, Maine) in the 50-Back (30.59). Cullity swam the 50-Back for the first time and posted a 31.33 effort and Adam Gaulin '14 (Belfast, Maine) competed in the 500-Free event for the first time in his career and notched a 5:36.43 time.

Saint Joseph's College is off until February 4th when the teams compete at Gordon College in a meet slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
