Men Fall Short Against Regis, 134-98

STANDISH, ME – Regis College topped Saint Joseph's, 134-98, in a men's swimming dual meet at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Antonio Delvecchio (Middlebury, Conn.) registered three runner-up efforts in the loss.

The meet was much closer than the score would indicate, as many of the events were decided by tenths or hundredths of seconds with the Monks falling short by minimal margins on a handful of occasions.

Delvecchio notched runner-up efforts in the 100-Free (53.48), 100-Fly (1:02.30) and 50-Fly (25.99) with the latter events being extremely close. Freshman Alex Gilvey (Windham, Maine) cruised to victory in the 500-Free (5:22.27) and finished as the runner-up in the 50-Back (27.46) by only .01.

Sophomore Chris Cullity (North Reading, Mass.) won the 1000-Free (11:23.12) and was second in the 500-Free (5:26.81) and his classmate Preston Bowden (Biddeford, Maine) finished as the runner-up in the 200-Free (2:06.36) and 100-Back (1:04.02) events.

Senior captain Thomas Smith (New Hartford, Conn.) was the runner-up in the 100-Breast (1:11.74), 50-Breast (32.72) and 100-IM (2:23.69) and the 200-Free Relay team, featuring Gilvey, Bowden, Delvecchio and Evan Wright (Preston, Conn.), posted a six-second win with a 1:36.07 time.

The Monks are off until the weekend of December 1st when the team travels to Simmons College in Boston for the two-day GNAC Championship.
