Swimmers Split with UNE on Senior Day

STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College swim teams faced off against University of New England at the Harold Alfond Center Pool this afternoon. The men posted a 97-65 victory over the UNE men's club team while the SJC women fell to the Nor'easters by a 195-62 score.

Prior to the start of the event, the swim program took a few moments to honor the team's five seniors: Annie Fougere (Warner, N.H.), Brooke Huberdeau (North Andover, Mass.), Allie Krasco (Melrose, Mass.), Alexander Gilvey (Windham, Maine) and Andrew Merlino (Natick, Mass.). All five have competed for the Monks in each of their four years and will be missed upon graduation in the spring.

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

  • Gilvey, Ben Johnson (Belmont, Mass.), Merlino and Madison Bodine (South China, Maine) worked together to post a top finish in the 200-Medley relay with a 1:47.53 performance
  • Merlino won the 200-Free (2:04.90) and 50-Fly (26.20) races and was the runner-up in the 100-Back (1:02.33)
  • Gilvey cruised to a seven-second victory in the 50-Back (27.57) and also won the 100-Back (1:00.09) while placing third in the 200-IM (2:17.45)
  • Johnson won the 100-Breast (1:08.12) and posted runner-up finishes in the 50-Fly (56.86) and 200-IM (2:14.81)
  • Freshman Stephen Quinlan (Andover, Mass.) notched his first collegiate victory with a 26.70 effort in the 50-Free and was second in the 100-Free (59.14) and 50-Fly (28.06) events
  • Bodine also posted his first NCAA win with a 58.97 time in the 100-Free

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

  • Krasco, Lauren Prue (Glenburn, Maine), Julia Rowlett (Saco, Maine) and Leia Berube (Brewer, Maine) swam in the 200-Medley relay and placed third with a 2:18.08 effort
  • Fougere posted the Monks' lone victory on the afternoon with a 36.74 time in the 50-Breast and was second in the 100-Breast (1:21.57) and fourth in the 50-Free (30.91)
  • Junior Lauren Halvorsen (South Portland, Maine) finished second in the 1000-Free (12:36.56), placed fourth in the 500-Free (6:23.80), and was fifth in the 50-Free (31.75)
  • Huberdeau was the runner-up in the 100-Free (1:03.02) and placed third in the 200-Free (2:19.11) and 500-Free (6:11.70) events
  • Rowlett finished as the runner-up in the 50-Back (32.64) and 100-Back (1:11.30) and posted a third-place effort in the 50-Fly (32.49)
  • Berube was fourth in the 50-Back (37.15) and fifth in the 100-Free (1:12.48) and 50-Fly (38.02) events
  • Prue placed third in the 100-Breast (1:22.31) and fourth in the 100-Fly (1:17.41) and 200-IM (2:43.52)
  • Krasco was third in the 100-Back (1:16.73) and fifth in the 100-Fly (1:19.58) and 200-IM (2:49.14)
  • Junior Brittany Dalphonse (Coventry, R.I.) finished sixth in the 100-Free (1:15.65) and 50-Fly (39.31) events
  • Huberdeau, Dalphonse, Fougere and Halvorsen swam the 200-Free relay and finished third with a 2:05.95 time

Saint Joseph's travels to Husson University this Saturday for a 1:00 PM meet against the Eagles.
