Bear & Levine Collect GNAC Weekly Honors

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph's College men's swimmers have been honored.

Sophomore Austin Bear (Hanover, Maine) is the GNAC Corvias Men's Swimmer of the Week and freshman Caleb Levine (Portland, Maine/Waynflete) has garnered GNAC Corvias Men's Swimming Rookie of the Week for the reporting period ending February 4th.

Both swimmers earn their first collegiate weekly honor after posting fine performances in an 87-84 victory at Gordon College on Saturday. With personal-best times, Bear won the 50-Breast (34.09) and 100-Breast (1:18.66) races with a third-place finish in the 100-IM (1:19.89). Levine claims his first GNAC weekly accolade after winning the 200-Free (2:01.98) with a runner-up effort in the 100-Fly (1:03.04) while swimming a leg for the Monks' winning 200-Medley Relay (1:51.17) quartet.

Bear and Levine join fellow SJC swimmers Joey Christian (Scarborough, Maine) and Stephen Quinlan (Andover, Mass.) on the list of Monks men's swimmers who have earned conference honors this spring. Their efforts helped lead the Saint Joseph's men's program to a 7-2 record this year, the first winning season in team history.

Saint Joseph's will compete in the 2018 NEISDA Championship, which begins on Friday, February 16th at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, R.I.
