Saint Joseph's Men Place Sixth, Women Ninth at GNAC Championship

BOSTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College completed the 2020 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at the Boston Sports Institute on the campus of Wellesley College on Sunday evening. The SJC men finished sixth with 91 points while the St. Joe's women placed ninth with 287 points.

Two team records fell on the final day of the three-day event, as freshman Evan Whaley (Merrimack, N.H.) broke the Monks' 200-Fly mark and won the race with a 2:02.04 time and senior Emily Roy (Sidney, Maine) finished 12th with a team-record 1:05.87 effort in the 100-Back finals.

With the GNAC victory, Whaley becomes the first SJC men's swimmer to win at the conference championship since 2015 and just the third in program history overall. Ben Johnson last won in 2015 while Alex Gilvey '16 claimed a pair of victories in the 2012 GNAC Championship.

For the women's side, the Simmons University Sharks cruised to their 16th-consecutive GNAC Championship with 1181.5 points, nearly twice the total of runner-up Regis College, which racked up 692 points in the three-day event. Husson University (658.5), Colby-Sawyer College (635), Norwich University (570.5), University of Saint Joseph (443.5), Elms College (335), Albertus Magnus College (305), and Saint Joseph's (287) rounded out the nine-team field.

On the men's docket, the Norwich University Cadets claimed their 10th-straight GNAC title after posting 466 total points, well ahead of runner-up Husson, which tallied 192 points.
