2012 Women's Lacrosse Captains Announced

STANDISH, ME - Seniors Megan Cutter (Westbrook, Maine), Allyson Woods (Portland, Maine/McAuley) and Amelia Santos (Beverly, Mass.) have been selected as team captains for the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team.

Entering her second year as a team captain, Cutter tallied 13 goals, five assists, 21 ground balls and 7 caused turnovers for the Monks last spring. A two-time GNAC All-Academic selection, Cutter is a three-year starting midfielder for Saint Joseph's and currently ranks third in program history in games played (41).

Woods, a three-year starting defender, scooped up 26 ground balls and added 11 caused turnovers in nine contests for the Monks in 2011. She ranks sixth in team history in ground balls (66) and caused turnovers (14).

Santos, the top returning scorer for St. Joe's, netted 22 goals and a team-high 21 assists and added 18 ground balls as a junior. She heads into her final collegiate campaign ranked second in program history in career assists (38) and third in both goals (62) and points (100).

Saint Joseph's, guided by third-year Head Coach Anna Gordon, looks to improve upon last year's showing as the Monks missed the conference tournament for the first time in four years as a varsity sport after going 5-7 overall and 2-6 in GNAC play in 2011. With the help of strong leadership from Cutter, Woods and Santos, St. Joe's is likely to contend for a playoff spot and perhaps make a run deep into the GNAC tourney this spring.

The 2012 campaign begins on March 15th when the Monks travel to Bangor for a 4:00 PM tilt versus non-conference foe Husson University.
