PORTLAND, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (1-1) skated past Husson University (0-1), 17-1, in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest at Deering Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
THE LEAD
Saint Joseph's scored early and often in what was the Monks' 2016 home opener, as the hosts hit pay dirt on nearly half of their shots (37) with six different players finding the back of the cage in the rout.

- Sophomore Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) was dominant in all phases, with five goals, two assists, nine ground balls, seven caused turnovers, and a pair of draw controls
- Junior Kelsey Dumond (Lewiston, Maine) scored five goals on seven shots with an assist and two ground balls
- Junior Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.) registered two goals, two assists, five ground balls, nine draw controls, and four caused turnovers
- Senior Kat Gadbois (Scarborough, Maine) potted a goal with five helpers, seven ground balls, and five caused turnovers

- Senior defender Meghan Williams (Greenland, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) chipped in with an assist, five ground balls, and three draw controls
- Senior goalie Michelle Cunha (Enfield, Conn.) stopped six of the seven shots she faced to pick up her first win of the season

- Junior Mariah Carrier (Lewiston, Maine) netted the Eagles' lone goal on a free-position shot with 2:59 left in the first half
- Freshman defender Serian Williams (Ulm, Germany) scooped up five ground balls
- Sophomore midfielder Amanda Deshaies (Wells, Maine) added four ground balls and three caused turnovers
- Junior goalie Kaitlin Dolloff (Richmond, R.I.) made 14 saves in the losing effort
TEAM STATS
Saint Joseph's held commanding leads in shots (37-8), draw controls (19-1), and ground balls (42-21) and was successful on nine of 12 clear attempts on the afternoon. Husson cleared successfully just eight times on 26 attempts.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING
With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 5-0-1 in the matchup with Husson University, a team the Monks defeated by a 17-8 score in Bangor last spring. Today's winning margin is the largest in the six-game history of the series.
