Monks Fly Past Blue Jays, 17-1

PORTLAND, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (12-3, 8-1 GNAC) toppled University of Saint Joseph (3-10, 0-9 GNAC), 17-1, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse action at Deering Memorial Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's dominated from the start and netted 17 unanswered goals before the Blue Jays scored with 2:39 left in the second half. The Monks held sizeable advantages in shots (33-1), ground balls (30-12), and draw controls (17-3) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's freshman Kaylin Mansir (West Gardiner, Maine) faced just one shot in the victory and sees her record improve to 12-3. USJ junior Emily Bourassa (Bristol, Conn.) posted nine stops in the losing effort.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Junior Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) tallied four goals and an assist, four ground balls, and five draw controls
  • Sophomore Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) scored three goals with an assist, two ground balls, and six caused turnovers
  • Sophomore Kara Kelly (York, Maine) registered two goals, two assists, two ground balls, and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Senior Jackie Wilson (Tiverton, R.I.) added three goals, six ground balls, a pair of draw controls, and two caused turnovers
  • Freshman Madison Beaulieu (West Gardiner, Maine) chipped in with a goal, two assists, and three ground balls

LEADERS – UNIVERSITY OF SAINT JOSEPH:

  • Freshman Charlotte Eberhardt (Thomaston, Conn.) netted the Blue Jays' lone goal
  • Sophomore Diamond Wallen (Hartford, Conn.) corralled three ground balls
  • Junior Hannah Lemek (Bristol, Conn.) chipped in with two ground balls and a pair of draw controls

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's is now 10-0 in the history of the series with University of Saint Joseph.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's, the second seed in the GNAC Tournament, will host #7 Norwich University in a conference quarterfinal on Wednesday at Deering Memorial Stadium. Opening face-off is set for 8:00 PM.
