BOSTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (5-1) toppled Simmons University (1-1), 15-6, in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest at Daly Field on Wednesday evening. Junior goalkeeper Madelyn Nelson (Casco, Maine) made 15 saves in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks opened play with three goals in the first three minutes and held a 12-2 cushion heading into intermission. Junior Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) netted her third goal of the game 5:27 into the second half to make it a 13-2 game before the Sharks potted three straight tallies and cut their deficit to 13-5 with 14:55 left.
Freshmen Caitlin O'Keefe (Whitman, Mass.) and Cailyn Wesley (Peabody, Mass.) both scored in the closing 11 minutes to offset a Simmons strike at the 3:07 mark and account for the 15-6 final.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (31-24) and draw controls (16-7) while Simmons posted the advantage in ground balls (27-19) and caused turnovers (11-9) on the evening.
THE KEEPERS:
Nelson tallied a season-high 15 saves while Simmons netminder Erin McIntyre turned away six shots in a losing effort.

With the win Saint Joseph's evens up the all-time series at seven wins apiece.
