Monks Topple Terriers, 22-2

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (2-0) cruised past Thomas College (0-1), 22-2, in non-conference women's lacrosse action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks kicked off the game with seven unanswered goals, as grad student Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) scored three and assisted on two others to help the hosts set the tone.

Thomas managed to score twice in a matter of 47 seconds, as senior Anna Chadwick (Gardiner, Maine) and freshman Alia Chasse (Sanford, Maine) hit pay dirt at the 7:47 and 7:00 minute marks of the second quarter, respectively, to make it a 7-2 game.

It was all St. Joe's after the Terriers' scoring spell however, as the Monks rattled off 15 straight tallies to run away with the 20-goal triumph.

MILESTONE MET:

With an assist on a Cailyn Wesley (Peabody, Mass.) strike at the 12:48 mark of the second quarter, Dexter became the 14th player in team history to reach the 100-career-point plateau.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (44-6), shots on goal (35-5), ground balls (20-12) and draw controls (20-8) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC freshman starter Jenna Shutt (Holliston, Mass.) made one save in the first half while first-year Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, Mass.) posted a pair of stops in a shutout second half.

For Thomas, junior Lizzy Gotay (Guilderland, N.Y.) recorded eight saves in the losing effort.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Dexter tallied five goals and seven assists with three ground balls
  • Freshman Brianna Paul (Brattleboro, Vt.) notched two goals and a pair of assists
  • First-year Mackenzie Siebert (Naples, Maine) added two goals and two assists
  • Freshman Shauna Clark (Oakland, Maine) scored three goals and added an assist
  • Sophomore Megan Mourmouras (Biddeford, Maine) added two goals and an assist
  • Sophomore Bridget Collins (Milford, Conn.) and Wesley chimed in with two goals apiece
  • Sophomore Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine) scored a goal and picked up 13 draw controls

LEADERS – THOMAS:

  • Chadwick and Chasse netted a goal apiece
  • Senior Lauren Bartlett (Wells, Maine) posted six draw controls
  • Gottay added four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 11-1 all-time versus Thomas College and has now defeated the Terriers in five-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2014 campaign.
