STANDISH, Maine – The 2022 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association (IWLCA) Division III Academic Honor Roll has been released and three Saint Joseph's College players have been honored.
Grad student Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) and rising seniors Hannah Flaherty (Waltham, Mass.) and Tara Powers (Tyngsboro, Mass.) are among the 1,104 student-athletes from 194 different institutions on the 2022 IWLCA Division III Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
Dexter, who is pursuing her master's degree in Education Leadership, netted 80 goals with 75 assists for 155 total points along with 78 ground balls, 46 draw controls, and 22 caused turnovers in 21 games this spring. Flaherty, who double-majors in Art & Design and Psychology with a minor in Business at St. Joe's, netted a goal with four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while appearing in 11 contests as a junior midfielder.
Powers, a Nursing major, earned Third Team All-Conference accolades after picking up 28 ground balls with 19 caused turnovers over 21 games as a top defender.
All three individuals are first-time recipients of the national academic award.
Under the watch of third-year Head Coach David Keenan, the Monks posted a 20-1 record with a perfect 13-0 mark in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play in 2022. As the top seed in the GNAC Tournament, St. Joe's toppled Elms College, 20-4, in quarterfinal play and advanced to the conference championship game with a 12-7 triumph over Emmanuel College in semifinal action. Hosting second-seeded – and four-time defending GNAC champion - Johnson & Wales University in the title bout, Saint Joseph's trailed for the better part of the contest but clinched the crown with three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter, winning 10-9.
Making their second NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2015, the Monks faced #23 SUNY-Geneseo in the opening round and suffered a 19-2 defeat at the hands of the Knights.
