Dexter Breaks SJC Points Record in Victory Over Lasell

STANDISH, Maine – Grad student Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) broke the Monks' career points record as Saint Joseph's College (9-2, 7-0 GNAC) defeated Lasell University (2-8, 2-5 GNAC), 17-3, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday evening.

MILESTONE MET:

Dexter entered tonight's contest three points shy of the Monks' career record, which was set by Elyse Caiazzo '18, who netted 318 (263 goals, 55 assists) points in 71 games over four seasons. Dexter tied the record with an assist on a Teegan Gilreath (Lowell, Mass.) goal 4:52 into the game and surpassed the total with an unassisted tally at the 6:56 mark of the first half.

Dexter closed out the game with three goals and three assists and has notched 321 points (178 goals, 143 assists) in just 56 career contests.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks took control right out of the gates by scoring four goals in a matter of 1:28 early in the first quarter, when Gilreath bookmarked the string with strikes at the 12:36 and 11:08 marks while sophomore Shauna Clark (Oakland, Maine) and Dexter hit pay dirt in between the time stamps to account for the hosts' 4-0 advantage.

As it played out, the Monks netted 14 unanswered goals to start the game as a Bridget Collins (Milford, Conn.) free-position tally with 1:19 left in the second quarter provided the Royal Blue with a 14-0 cushion going into intermission.

Sophomore Brianna Paul (Brattleboro, Vt.), freshman Alexis Copp (New Durham, N.H.), and second-year Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, Mass.) capped the game scoring for the Monks with goals in the second half.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (34-21), shots on goal (24-11), ground balls (24-12), draw controls (13-10), and caused turnovers (7-6) in the victory.
