Monks down Mariners

Standish, ME - The Saint Joseph's College women's soccer team snapped a two-game losing streak with a convincing 3-1 victory over Maine Maritime Academy.

The Monks (3-2) went up 1-0 at 18:41 as FY Anna Willis (Gorham, ME) assisted on a goal by SO Katie Jordan (Sandwich, MA). The Mariners (1-2-1) evened the score at 32:55 after FY Diana Manatt-Rogers (Conway, MA) headed the ball past SJC goalkeeper FY Monica Cuda (Everett, MA).

Less than three minutes later, sophomore Heather Stanger (Rockport, MA) collected the ball, drove left and drilled the game winner. Sophomore Megan Willette (Waterville, ME) notched her first goal of the season in the 65th minute to give St. Joe's a comfortable lead.

Cuda had 1 save in her third win of the season and FY Jessica Hewitt (Harwich, MA) had 3 saves for the Mariners.

The Monks travel to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Sat., Sept. 23 for a game starting at 1:00 PM.
